Reiki in Los Angeles: How to Choose the Right Practitioner

4 min read

Los Angeles has more Reiki practitioners than almost any city in the country. That's a gift if you know what you're looking for — and overwhelming if you don't. After ten years of practicing Reiki here, first for friends and family and now full-time from my studio on Wilshire Boulevard, I've heard the same question in a hundred different forms: "How do I know who to trust with this?"

This guide is my honest answer. It applies whether you book with me or with someone across town.

First, a quick grounding: what Reiki actually is

Reiki is a gentle, hands-on energy practice. You lie down fully clothed on a treatment table while the practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above your body. Most people describe deep relaxation, warmth, and a quieter mind — many simply fall asleep. It is a complementary relaxation practice, not medical treatment, and it is not a substitute for care from a licensed healthcare provider. If you're brand new, my beginner's guide to Reiki covers the basics in more depth.

Five things to look for in any Los Angeles Reiki practitioner

1. Real training, named plainly. Reiki isn't licensed in California, so anyone can print business cards. Ask about lineage and certification. A practitioner should be able to tell you exactly what they trained in and to what level — in my case, certified Master Teacher in both Usui Reiki and Reiki Tummo. If the answer is vague, keep looking.

2. Reviews that describe experiences, not just stars. A high rating matters less than what clients actually say. Look for specific descriptions — how the session felt, whether the practitioner listened, what changed afterward. Read the three-star reviews too; they tell you the most.

3. A way to talk before you book. Energy work is personal. A practitioner confident in their work will happily talk with you before you commit — that's why I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation, with no pitch at the end of it. If someone pressures you to book a package on the first phone call, that tells you something.

4. Clear pricing, published where you can see it. In Los Angeles, a private one-hour Reiki session typically runs between $100 and $250 depending on experience and location. My sessions range from $150 for a 45-minute session to $275 for a 75-minute Reiki and cord cutting combination, all listed openly. A practitioner who won't name a price before you arrive is not respecting your time.

5. Honest claims. Reiki supports rest, calm, and emotional release. A trustworthy practitioner will never promise to cure a disease or tell you to step away from your doctor's care. If you hear promises like that anywhere in LA, walk out — for your safety, not just your wallet.

Three ways to receive Reiki in Los Angeles

In a studio. The most common format. My treatment room is at 8920 Wilshire Blvd, Suite 520 in Beverly Hills, and clients travel in from West Hollywood, Santa Monica, Culver City, Brentwood, Century City, and across Los Angeles.

At home. If leaving the house is the hardest part — new parents, recovery, mobility, or simply preferring your own space — house calls bring the full session to you, table and all, across Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Santa Monica, Studio City, Sherman Oaks, and surrounding neighborhoods.

At a distance. Energy work is not bound by geography, and distance sessions have been part of traditional Usui Reiki from the beginning. Some of my longest-standing clients have never been in the room — they receive sessions from home, from other states, and from other countries.

Beyond a basic session: chakra healing and deeper work

Many people searching for Reiki in Los Angeles are really looking for something more specific. The most requested session in my practice is Reiki and Chakra Healing with Crystals — a 60-minute session that reads all seven energy centers and closes with a plain-language account of what each one was doing. Others come for cord cutting after a difficult relationship or chapter, or pair Reiki with intuitive guidance when they're facing a major decision.

You don't need to know which of these you need. That's what the free consultation is for — tell me what's been feeling heavy, and I'll tell you honestly which session fits, or whether a single simple session is enough.

Common questions about Reiki in Los Angeles

Do I need to believe in Reiki for it to work? No. Most of my clients arrived skeptical. Come curious, lie down, and notice what you notice.

How often should I book? Many clients come once and get what they came for. Those working through a demanding season often settle into a rhythm of every two to four weeks — my three-session package exists for exactly that.

Is Reiki safe alongside therapy or medical care? Reiki is gentle and non-intrusive, and it sits comfortably alongside whatever care you are already receiving. It never replaces it.

What should I do before a first session? Almost nothing. Wear comfortable clothes, go easy on caffeine beforehand, and arrive a few minutes early. My guide on what to expect at your first session walks through the whole hour.

Reiki is a complementary relaxation practice. It is not medical treatment and is not a substitute for care from a licensed healthcare provider.

Ready to start? Book a session online or begin with a free 15-minute phone consultation — no commitment, and no pitch at the end of it.
